Brooklyn-based Last Town Chorus is primarily singer and lap-steel guitarist Megan Hickey. In 2006, she released Wire Waltz, which featured this brooding cover of the ‘80’s-era David Bowie dance-ditty “Modern Love”.
We crammed Megan, one of her sidemen and her bizarre lap-steel guitar into the cramped broadcast studio of the radio station I worked for in Vermont in 2006 to play live on the air. I’ve been around loud amplifiers for 15 years and had never heard anything like the noises she got out of the little amplifier she brought with her. I still hear that noise in my sleep…
