Living Colour

In five short years, Vernon Reid’s Living Colour went from playing NYC clubs to opening for the Rolling Stones with another up-and-coming band, Guns ‘n’ Roses.

A virtuoso guitarist known for his dizzying speed and flawless technique, Vernon was better known on the jazz scene in 1980’s New York. He helped found the Black Rock Coalition (along with members of Fishbone and 24-7 Spyz) to encourage African-American participation in rock music.

By 1989, Living Colour had won a Grammy, opened for the Stones and popularized the wearing of Body Glove wetsuits to places other than the beach. The band broke up in 1995, then reunited in 2000 and have been touring and recording ever since.
